Sandy River Canoe Race

Canoe or kayak down the Sandy River with a mix of flat areas with rips, eddies, and pitches. Starts at the Strong Legion building and goes for approximately 10 miles to the Fairbanks bridge. There will be a shuttle service to bring paddlers back to their vehicles. Minimum age of 13. Under 13 allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision. UMF Community Chorus and Orchestra perform Carlsen and Brahms

Marking the retirement of UMF Professor of Music Philip Carlsen, the UMF Community Chorus and Orchestra join forces to perform Carlsen's "Night Thoughts." Originally premiered by the UMF Chorus in 1995, the work is a setting for chorus and orchestra of poetry by Emily Dickinson and former UMF Professor Wesley McNair. McNair, the poet laureate of Maine, will be present to introduce and read the poems. The chorus will also sing Brahms's "Liebeslieder Waltzes," conducted by Bruce McInnes, and accompanied by pianists Patricia Hayden and Kathryn Sytsma.
