Tint Sprint 5K

The 2nd Tint Sprint powder-paint walk/run at UMF is sponsored by the UMF Health Club to inspire campus and community members to enjoy the fun of exercise and healthy outdoor activities. Participants start the event in white t-shirts and volunteers douse the runners with a safe and natural-colored powder that has runners finishing the event with an explosion of color from head to toe. This spring 5K follows the same route as UMF's fall Turkey Trot. Early registration is in the Olsen Student Center 12-1pm, April 8-17. $20 adults, $17 students. Registration the morning of the race takes place at the FRC from 9-10am. Registration prices on the day of the race are: $23 adults; $20 college, high school, $20 younger students. Proceeds from the walk/run will benefit the UMF Health Club required to fundraise for a portion of their budget, and Eta Sigma Gamma, the national honor society for professionals in health education. Marking the retirement of UMF Professor of Music Philip Carlsen, the UMF Community Chorus and Orchestra join forces to perform Carlsen's "Night Thoughts." Originally premiered by the UMF Chorus in 1995, the work is a setting for chorus and orchestra of poetry by Emily Dickinson and former UMF Professor Wesley McNair. McNair, the poet laureate of Maine, will be present to introduce and read the poems. The chorus will also sing Brahms's "Liebeslieder Waltzes," conducted by Bruce McInnes, and accompanied by pianists Patricia Hayden and Kathryn Sytsma.
