Nicole Achey received her Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services from the University of Maine at Farmington and her Master’s degree from The University of Northern Colorado, where she became a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Nicole has previous experience working as a Rehabilitation Counselor at the Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. She also has multiculturalism experience from teaching English in Central America. In each class Nicole applies her professional experience to provide students with real life examples. Nicole is a representative on the State of Maine Rehabilitation Council; she is involved with the Maine IJM Advocacy Group and serves on the faculty development committee at the University of Maine at Farmington campus. Nicole teaches both online and traditional in class courses. Her areas of research interest are diverse cultures, and survivors of modern day slavery and human trafficking.

Karen Barrett is a native of Maine, and is a graduate of the Rehabilitation Services Program. She completed her Masters and Doctorate at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where her studies and research focused on human resources within rehabilitation organizations. She has published in the Journal of Rehabilitation Administration, Rehabilitation Education,  and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and is a member of the Commission on Undergraduate Standards and Accreditation of the Council on Rehabilitation Education. Dr. Barrett has local ties, and is a leader in rehabilitation education at the national level.

Jewel L. Jones received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa, her Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and her Doctorate degree in Rehabilitation from Southern Illinois University.  Jewel has experience in addiction counseling, outpatient crisis counseling, residential counseling, vocational rehabilitation, and community based treatment for children and families. She has been a faculty member in the Division of Rehabilitation Services and Special Education at the University of Maine at Farmington since 2002. Jewel serves as the Program Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Services Program. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Conditional Licensed Clinical Practicing Counselor. Jewel is active on the Advisory Board to the University of Southern Maine’s Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling Program and is on the editorial board for the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Journal.
