Interior Landscapes and the Earthquake in Haiti

January 30th, 2013 - 4:00pm

This presentation by Dr. Jay Ketner from Bowdoin College focuses on teaching francophone cultures through current events and foreign media. Looking at the earthquake in Haiti as an example, and drawing from Dany Laferri're's Tout bouge autour de moi (The World is Moving Around Me), Ketner examines what students of culture gain when literary texts are given equal weight with real-world, journalistic sources, as a way to understand current events through different lenses and frames. North Dining Hall A, UMF Olsen Student Center. Open to the public.
