Oct 11Biyuu II: Daily Interactive Performances
October 11th, 2012 - 2:30pm
Events begins on September 21 and goes until November 1. In her site-specific installation, Biyuu II, sound and video artist Liz Phillips collaborates with butoh dancer Mariko Endo Reynolds to create an interactive visual soundscape that responds to and transforms the natural actions of wind and water. Sensors trace the air currents outside the gallery and movement inside as people pass through the space, activating sounds and luminous imagery. The title, Biyuu, is a Japanese onomatopoetic word describing the sound of wind through bamboo. Viewers are also invited to perform/interact during all gallery hours. This exhibition is made possible by the generous support of the David Bermant Foundation. Gallery hours are Tuesdays - Sundays 12-4 pm and by appointment. UMF Art Gallery, 246 Main St. Farmington. Open to the public.

Flu Vaccination Clinic
October 11th, 2012 - 8:00am
Influenza is a miserable respiratory illness that causes fever, body aches, sore throat and coughing. Most people or sick for a week or more. Flu can lead to serious complications like pneumonia in children, elderly or people with chronic illnesses like asthma. Please make getting vaccinated a priority if you have any health problems or if you will be working with children or elderly this semester or next. Flu germs spread easily on college campuses and getting vaccinated can protect yourself as well as the people you work with. Again this year, we have flu-mist, a nasal spray vaccine that can be used with healthy people up to age 49 if you prefer not getting a shot. We can bill most insurance for the vaccine so there is no cost to you but you must bring your insurance card when you get your vaccine. If you have no insurance coverage, the cost is $10 which you can pay for at the time (cash or check) or have it billed to your student account. In an effort to maximize the number of people we can immunize and be less disruptive to health care delivery in the Student Health Center, we are requesting that students and staff make every effort to come to one of the five clinics. Thursday Oct 11th from 8 -12 in the Lobby of Scott Hall-Health Center entrance; Wednesday Oct 17th from 11:00-1:00 in the Student Center, NDH-A; Friday Oct 26th from 11-1:00 in the Student Center, room 123; Tuesday Oct 30th from 11:00-1 in the Student Center, room 123; Wednesday Nov 14th from 11-1:00 in the Student Center, NDH-A. Lobby of Scott Hall, use Health Center entrance. UMF Community Only.
