Intro to Canoe

October 16th, 2012 - 5:15pm

Join FRC Director Jim Toner in this class/clinic that will provide hands-on instruction on the fundamentals of paddling a canoe. Participants will learn basic paddling strokes including the forward paddle, J-stroke, draw, sweep, and pry to appropriately maneuver a canoe; learn how to "read" a river; re-enter a capsized or swamped boat; identify safety concerns, and more. Canoes, paddles & PFD's provided. Space is limited to 12. Minimum age of 13 or if under 13, allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision. Meet at the Fitness & Recreation Center. Open to the public.

The six women in this exhibition acknowledge the power of folklore on the collective conscience in an array of works that span from projects in social practice to crafted art objects. Emery Community Arts Center. Open to the public.
