Sound, Place, and Identity Featuring Josh Kun, Liz Phillips, and Omar Tamez

November 2nd, 2012 - 11:45am

As Josh Kun reminds us in Audiotopia, his seminal book on popular music and American identity, "listening is a form of confrontation, of encounter, of the meeting of worlds and meanings." This panel is sort of like that, too, bringing together Kun, sound-installation artist pioneer, Liz Phillips, and Omar Tamez, one of Mexico's premier improvising artists, in a conversation dedicated to encouraging our aural awareness of the sonic resonance linking place, space, and identity. Emery Community Arts Center. Open to the public.
