Nov 3James Joyce, The Sound of Bloom's Sirens: A Performative Reading
November 3rd, 2012 - 7:00pm
"Sirens' is the 'music' chapter of James Joyce's Ulysses and is set in the concert room, saloon, and restaurant of the Ormond hotel and bar in Dublin on 4 pm on June 16, 1904. "The Sound of Bloom''s Sirens" is a performative reading where actors, musicians, and audience members treat Joyce's text as a musical score and render the soundscape he depicted in the words of the chapter. To provide context for the performative reading, the evening will begin with a talk on Joyce, Ulysses, and music and sound in "Sirens". UMF Emery Community Arts Center. Open to the public.
