November 5th, 2012 - 4:45pm
Wilderness and Remote First Aid is an ideal course for anyone that finds themselves in the outdoors; day hikes or overnight trips where help is over 1 hour away. This course will provide a foundation of first aid principals and skills that will help participants gain the confidence needed to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services response, such as wilderness and remote environments, including urban disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes. Topics include, but not limited to, primary and secondary assessments, calling for help and evacuation considerations, shock, wounds and wound infection, bone and joint injuries, burns, hypothermia, heat-related illnesses, lightening, altitude illnesses, submersion incidents, and allergies and anaphylaxis. Participants will receive a handbook and reference pocket guide as well as a SAM splint. The Wilderness and Remote First Aid and Adult CPR/AED certifications are valid for 2 years. Participants must be 14 years old on or before the last session of the course. Monday, November 5th, Wednesday, November 7th and Saturday, November 10th are the three days of this course.
