T. Margaret Brown left more than $700,000 when she passed away this May to the UMF Endowed Scholarship Fund and to establish another scholarship fund in her name according to the Portland Press Herald. This is the largest gift given to the scholarship fund at UMF and the second largest gift given to the university as a whole. Joanne Edwards a friend of Brown told the Portland Press Herald that “I think she wanted to see that students that needed the money would be able to go to school.” Edwards’ husband a friend of Brown said that the donation was a final act of kindness from someone who had spent much of her life looking out for those in need, especially children.
