The recently released national rankings named Farmington No. 5 in Top Public Colleges, No. 7 as a Best Value for students based on academic quality and cost, and No. 7 as Best Regional College in the North.

In addition, UMF’s commitment to providing access to an affordable education is reflected in its ranking as the No. 6 Top Performer in Social Mobility. This ranking recognizes how well schools provide affordable access to higher education and graduate students from lower family incomes.

“It is an honor to receive national recognition for what UMF provides for our students every day, affordable access to a transformative college education,” said Joseph McDonnell, UMF Interim President. “In my time at Farmington, I have seen what makes UMF stand out in higher education – a commitment of faculty and staff to students, high quality teaching, experiential hands-on courses, global awareness and an education leading to a professional career.”

UMF is ranked in the Carnegie classification of Regional Colleges in the North. Like National Universities, Regional Universities and Colleges offer a full range of undergraduate programs and provide graduate education at the master’s level with few if any doctoral programs.

College rankings are one of the tools that students and families can use to help them with their initial college search. Now in its 38th year, the U.S. News rankings evaluate more than 1,450 colleges and universities on up to 17 measures of academic quality.

UMF was also ranked by Washington Monthly as a Top Public or Private Bachelor’s College in the U.S. The overall score is based on an institution’s contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service.
