Bio

Dr. Mariella Passarelli was trained as a synthetic organic chemist designing drug candidates for the pharmaceutical industry.  After her doctorate, Passarelli worked in toxicology looking at how carcinogens change the shape of DNA to cause mutations.  She now uses enzymes to synthesize organic molecules, looks at other xenobiotics in the environment, and focuses on best practices for teaching chemistry.  Her teaching responsibilities include: organic chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, and chemistry for health sciences.
