Dr. Stephanie Purington received her BS from MIT, majoring in Aeronautics and Astronautics. After a few years in that industry, she decided to return to school to become a secondary math teacher. She worked in both public and independent schools teaching math, and occasionally science, to students in grades 6-12. While working with a district math and science committee, she was offered the opportunity to become a trainer for the Developing Mathematical Ideas program and went on to provide professional development to K-8 classroom teachers, special education teachers, and paraprofessionals for many years. Dr. Purington received her PhD in Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she studied math identity and mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT). Her research interests include further work on MKT and practices-based teacher education.
