The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a graduate school admission test that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. It is intended to measure your ability to recognize relationships between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts. The MAT consists of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes. (100 of the analogies count; 20 of the analogies are experimental and will not count toward your score.)

MAT Exams are administered Monday-Friday by individual appointment. Occasional Saturdays may be available, inquire at time of scheduling.

Fee: $95 Payment required at time of scheduling by debit or credit card.

Cancellation policy

$95 fee is non-refundable, but we will reschedule your test with no additional cost.

Check-in Policies

Report at least 10 minutes prior to exam time with two forms of identification, one of which must bear a picture. No cell phones, electronic devices or food/drink allowed in the testing rooms.

Before taking the MAT, determine whether or not the graduate schools to which you are applying accept submission of the Miller Analogies Test in lieu of the Graduate Record Exam General Test. Many master’s level graduate programs in counseling, education, social work and the helping professions will accept the MAT in lieu of the GRE General Test.

University of Maine Testing Services is located on the 3rd flr of Franklin Hall at 252 Main Street, Farmington, Maine.


You may park in Parking Lot 17. Please park in spots that are designated for testing. Street parking is also available.
