As of November 8, 2021, the U.S. government will require all air passengers to be fully vaccinated before boarding a plane to the U.S. A person is considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after receiving all doses of the FDA approved vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson) or WHO approved vaccines (Oxford/AstraZeneca, Serum Institute of India, Sinopharm, and Sinovac).
The University of Maine System also requires all students attending in-person classes and activities to be fully vaccinated with one of the above listed vaccines. Please record verification of your vaccination on our secure campus portal. You will need your MaineStreet username and password to log in. Detailed instructions can be found online.
Degree-seeking international students (F-1 visa) apply to, and are admitted through, the UMF Admission Office. Once academically admitted, students work with the Office of Global Education to receive documents required for the visa application, make arrival and orientation preparations, and receive ongoing immigration advising.
To come to UMF as an international exchange visitor (J-1 visa), students must first be nominated to the Office of Global Education by their home institution. Once the nomination is submitted, students will receive an email containing a unique link and detailed instructions to access the online Exchange Visitor application. J-1 Scholars must be sponsored by a UMF host faculty/department. The Office of Global Education will issue documents required for the visa application and provide arrival and orientation information as well as academic and immigration advising.
On this page, you will find information that will help you plan your UMF experience as an international degree-seeking or exchange student.
