Living Learning Communities

Living Learning Communities at Farmington offer you a unique, inclusive, residential experience with the added benefit of living among peers who share similar goals and interests. As an active member of a Living Learning Community, you’ll get an opportunity to build partnerships with other students and staff while engaging in purposeful, interactive programs and events. You’ll develop a sense of belonging while you share and deepen your passion.

Living Learning Communities require students to opt into the community on their housing application and is a more involved community. Programming and student engagement are geared toward the subject of these communities.

UMF Student Housing has two different Living Learning Communities:

  • Experience the Outdoors Living Learning Community (Dakin Hall, 1st floor)
  • NEW: Veterans & Active Duty Military Living Learning Community (Scott Hall-West, lower floor)

Themed Communities

Themed Communities allow students to live among others who share a similar personal or academic interest or passion. These communities offer residents new learning opportunities through social and educational programming around a theme. A Themed Community may encompass a floor or an entire hall and focus on a shared interest or common experience.

Themed Communities are open to anyone (they do not require opting in) and have a variety of programming opportunities and engagement (not necessarily related to the theme). Themed Communities are a more informal, shared interest between some of the residents that live there.
