Joey Essoe

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Dr. Joey Ka-Yee Essoe is a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in learning enhancement. After teaching herself to program virtual reality and mobile apps, she applied innovative technology to enhance language learning at UCLA, then examined and optimized behavioral therapeutic learning at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She now aims to apply this interdisciplinary research to enhance rural mental health care, making it more accessible and affordable. As an immigrant and first-generation university student, she believes “everything is impossible until someone does it” — and strives to help others become that someone in a meaningful, practical, and achievable way.
