To enable consistency of use and clear communication, the University of Maine at Farmington logo should appear at least once on any marketing or communication materials. Any use of the logos or University name beyond the approved logo usages below must be reviewed and approved by Marketing.

Please do not change the proportions of the logo, rotate it, or include the logo or part of the logo in a larger image. The logo should be clearly readable and not separated into parts, printed in color combinations, or combined as art with text.

University Logo

UMF logo

The graphic above, called the University Logo, is the University’s primary logo and can be used on any marketing or communication pieces for non-recruitment events and activities put on by UMF departments, programs, or offices. Examples include letterhead, posters, postcards, flyers, brochures, etc. It is available in a select number of colors, each for specific uses. This logo comes in 2 colors (seen here) and in just maroon and just black.

 

UMF Mark

A secondary graphic, above, is called the UMF Mark. The UMF Mark is a vertical / square-ish graphic and can be used when the longer horizontal University Logo will not work well. The UMF Mark is best used for items like business cards, signage, posters, flyers, and in-house items. This mark comes in 2 colors (seen here) and in just maroon and just black.

The University of Maine at Farmington’s official sans-serif font is Myriad Pro. This is pretty widely available as an open source font.

Photos

The Marketing & Communications Office maintains an extensive Photo Bank of UMF images. These are available by request only.

  • If you’re looking for photos, please email umf.marketing@maine.edu with a general description of what you’d like, how the image(s) will be used, and when you’ll need them.
  • If you’re requesting that we shoot NEW photos, contact Victoria Stefanakos victoria.stefanakos@maine.edu. We may already have what you think needs to be photographed, but we may need to shoot something new.
  • If you’ve shot images, please let us know. We’re always on the lookout for great, usable photos! Let us know what you’ve got and how you can share it with us.
  • If you’ve obtained images that you did not shoot, please note: We cannot use images that were Right-Clicked and Saved from another website, on social media or images that are shared with us without the owner’s permission—even in instances where a UMF student took the photo. Unless the student was working for you, we still need the student’s permission to use their intellectual property — even if it was for a classroom assignment.
  • Camera vs. Smartphone photos: While we prefer images shot with a DSLR, nowadays we can often use images shot on a smartphone. As long as the image file extension is something we can work with, we can often use it. (Apple’s .HEIC image format is often a compatability issue.)
  • Note: If you’re shooting pictures with a smartphone, please hold your phone horizontally (landscape) rather than vertically. We can always crop in from a horizontal image but can rarely crop to landscape from an image that was shot vertically.
