The Mathematics program at the University of Maine at Farmington helps you develop the marketable skills of abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis by studying areas such as calculus, logic, probability and statistics.

Mathematics students at UMF have wonderful opportunities to engage in high-end, on-campus undergraduate research under the close and supportive mentorship of a mathematics faculty member.

Students in our Mathematics program have presented their research at regional and national conferences, and have published scholarly papers in peer-reviewed research journals.

Two Math Options: Applied Track and Pure Track

To better prepare you for the workforce and meet your specific interests, the Mathematics program at UMF offers two different options: a Pure Track and an Applied Track.

The Applied Track includes more application-focused courses and includes a concentration in a non-math field of your choosing (in consultation with your academic advisor) such as Computer Science, Physics, or Business.

The Pure Track focuses on more theoretical courses.

The Mathematics major conforms to the guidelines of the Mathematical Association of America, the largest professional society in the world with a focus on undergraduate mathematics.


Save nearly $6,000 per year in tuition. This University of Maine at Farmington program will qualify for the New England Regional Program tuition discount beginning in Fall 2024.

This price break is for residents of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont for the 2024-2025 academic year — a savings of $5,880 per year.
