Teacher with students in counseling class

UMF is excited to announce a new offering within our expanding Graduate Programs: Farmington’s Part-Time Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology-Creative Arts Focus meets the needs of busy working professionals interested in serving a growing need in our communities. After graduating, our students are prepared to support individuals’ mental wellness through a particularly healing lens: the creative arts.

Our new part-time pathway through UMF’s Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology will launch this fall with a small cohort. The part-time program will allow students to complete the program in as little four years. That’s the shortest part-time pathway in the state of Maine and the only program featuring creative arts as its focus.

Students in our established full-time program earn their MA in two years. Close-knit cohorts in either pathway will receive the same high-quality instruction and curriculum that prepares them for a meaningful and rewarding career.

Our graduates are in increasingly high demand for good reason. Mainers struggling with mental health issues currently face a wait of up to four months before they can see a therapist. We designed our newest program to meet this growing need within our communities. UMF’s part-time program will help working students pursue a degree that will support one of the state’s most vulnerable populations. Once licensed, our graduates can choose from a range of job opportunities.

Learning at the University of Maine at Farmington is hands-on. Our students cherish their close connections with faculty and fellow students—and the supportive environment they create together. UMF’s newest graduate program combines that familiar connection with flexibility. Our cohort model means that students will learn and develop skills alongside a committed group of future colleagues.

Now, they can all learn at a pace that fits their lives.
